The Indian Premier League (IPL) is an Indian Twenty20 cricket competition. At the end of each season, the tournament presents many IPL awards to players. Maximum Sixes Award, Orange Cap, Purple Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Year, and so on.

Orange Cap IPL Award

The Orange Cap, now known as the Aramco Orange Cap due to sponsorship, is given to the Indian Premier League’s top run scorer (IPL). It premiered on April 25, 2008, a week after the start of the inaugural season of the IPL. The batsman who scored the most runs in the tournament over the season would wear the Orange Cap while fielding, with the tournament’s overall leading run-scorer getting the actual Orange Cap award on the day of the season’s final. The first player to wear the Orange Cap was Brendon McCullum, and the first winner was Shaun Marsh. David Warner has won the cap three times so far, while Chris Gayle has won it twice. In the 2016 Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli scored the most runs (973) in a single competition.

Lalit Modi, the then-IPL chairman and commissioner, said of the initiative, “Cricket is frequently remembered and recorded in terms of statistics rather than material distinctions. Under this effort, the DLF Indian Premier League will create a distinction for the best performing batsman, which will be appreciated and valued by each player. The goal of this effort is to be new, to create another piece of history that distinguishes the DLF Indian Premier League from the competition, and to recognize great achievements by the players.

Purple Cap IPL Award

The Purple Cap, now known as the Aramco Purple Cap due to sponsorship reasons  is awarded to the IPL’s highest wicket-taker.

Following the release of the Orange Cap on April 25, 2008, the IPL announced the release of the Purple Cap on May 13, 2008. The bowler who took the most wickets during the season would wear the Purple Cap while fielding, with the overall leading wicket-taker at the end of the tournament receiving the actual Purple Cap award on the day of the season’s final. In the event of a tie, the bowler with the higher economy rate would be awarded the Purple Cap. [20] Only Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo have twice earned the Purple Cap. Dwayne Bravo and Harshal Patel each took 32 wickets in the 2013 Indian Premier League and 2021 Indian Premier League, the highest for any bowler in a single edition of the competition, although Daniel Bravo remains ahead of Harshal Patel due to the two bowlers’ greater economy rates under IPL standards.

Lalit Modi, the then-IPL chairman and commissioner, said of the move, “During the course of the League’s debut season, we’ve learned that bowlers are just as vital as batsmen in winning T20 matches.

Award for the Most Sixes

The Maximum Sixes Award, presently named as the Unacademy Let’s Crack It Sixes Award due to sponsorship reasons, is given to the batsman who smashes the most sixes in an IPL season.

Player of the Year IPL Award

Until the 2012 season, the honor was known as the Man of the Tournament. In 2013, the IPL adopted the Most Valuable Player ranking system, with the leader being crowned the Most Valuable Player at the end of the season. Every four hits equals 2.5 points under the points system. Each six hit and wicket taken is worth 3.5 points. Each dot ball bowled earns one point. Every catch and every stumping earned you 2.5 points. Due to sponsorship concerns, the award is now known as Upstox Most Valuable Player.

Youngest Player of the Year IPL Award

The award was named “Under-23 Success of the Tournament” in 2009 and 2010 and was handed to the “best Under-19 player” in 2008. The award was known as “Rising Star of the Year” in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, and “Best Young Player of the Season” in 2013. The award has been known as the Emerging Player of the Year since 2014. Only players who have played fewer than five Tests, twenty ODIs, and twenty-five IPL matches before the start of the season are eligible for the award, and they can only win it once.

Seasonal Super Striker IPL Award

This award is granted to the batsman with the greatest season strike rate, with a minimum cutoff of 300 runs scored.

The Fair Play Award

At the end of each season, the Fair Play Award is given to the team with the best record of fair play.

The points granted to the teams by the umpires determine the winner. [93] Following each match, both teams’ performances are scored by two on-field umpires and a third umpire. Every match, a team can gain ten points, four of which are awarded depending on how effectively the team adhered to the “spirit of the game” in the eyes of the umpires. The other three factors are based on opponent respect, cricket laws, and umpires. These three requirements are worth two points each. If a team obtains two points on the criterion, its performance is considered “excellent,” but one or zero points indicate “average” or “bad” performance, respectively.
