List of IPL 2023 Injured Players Who will Miss the Season

The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 31, with ten clubs competing for the coveted crown. With the IPL 2023 planned to be held over 12 sites, the ten clubs will play 14 league stage matches and will have the advantage of their designated home this season.

All of the teams built their squads for the forthcoming season at the IPL Auction 2023, which took place on December 23 in Kochi at the end of last year.

While most teams, such as the Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rajasthan Royals, have already begun their camps, some teams, such as the Mumbai Indians, have been hampered by IPL 2023 injured players in their preparation for the season.

The Delhi Capitals were also dealt a blow just a week after the auction when their captain and India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was injured in a vehicle accident. DC will now need to replace two jobs before the season begins, as Pant is anticipated to be out for an extended period of time.

MI, on the other hand, has been dealt a twin blow in terms of tempo. While England’s Jofra Archer is expected to participate, the record champions have lost India’s Jasprit Bumrah and his likely replacement in Australia’s Jhye Richardson. Both pacers have undergone surgery and will be out of commission for some time. The same may be said about Kyle Jamieson, a New Zealand pacer who was slated to play for CSK this season. The New Zealander has also been ruled out owing to injury.

Prasidh Krishna, another pacer who underwent surgery, is slated to miss the season for last season’s runners-up Rajasthan Royals. Reece Topley and Will Jacks of Royal Challengers Bangalore are also suffering niggles but have not been ruled out of the IPL.

Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders), Josh Hazlewood (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Sarfaraz Khan (Delhi Capitals), and Anrich Nortje (Royal Challengers Bangalore) are also on the injured list (Delhi Capitals). These four players have just sustained injuries, but they are not yet out of the IPL 2023.

Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone of the Punjab Kings are also recovering from injuries and it is uncertain when they will rejoin the PBKS camp. Other English players, such as Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and other Test stars, could also go early with an eye on the Ashes.

With the World Test Championship final 2023 likely to take place just a few days after the IPL 2023 final, certain Indian and Australian players may possibly end their seasons.

So far, the Delhi Capitals appear to be the worst-affected team, with three of their important players injured. Last year, the team’s captain, Rishabh Pant, was involved in an automobile accident. Anrich Nortje and Sarfaraz Khan are the other two players presently out with injury.

The Mumbai Indians, who have won the IPL five times in a row, have also been hampered by injuries. Jasprit Bumrah, one of the top fast bowlers in the world, is out of the tournament due to a back issue. Jhye Richardson, who cost the team a fortune, is also out with a hamstring injury.

Punjab Kings, who finished sixth in the last IPL season, is currently looking for a replacement for Jonny Bairstow. He shattered his left leg and dislocated his ankle while playing golf in September. Injuries have also affected the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, with Prasidh Krishna and Shreyas Iyer both missing.

The injuries to these players have alarmed both fans and team management. The IPL is a long and arduous event, with each team playing 14 matches alone in the league stage. With the added pressure of playoffs and the championship game, teams must have a full-strength squad at their disposal.
